Professional Biography

Sammie Lyle is a Faculty Lecturer and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Kentucky. With a strong background in public horticulture and ornamental plants from Iowa State University, she is passionate about connecting students with plants through active learning experiences in the classroom. She currently instructs HRT 100 (Introduction to Horticulture Professions), HRT 200 (Principles of Horticultural Science), HRT 240 (Introduction to Floral Design), HRT 330 (Herbaceous Horticultural Plants), HRT 340 (Floral Design for Life's Events), and HRT 399 (Experiential Learning in Horticulture).

Aside from instruction, Sammie advises the Horticulture Club and co-manages the Department's website and social media platforms. Her research interests include horticulture teaching methods and technologies and subsequent student perceptions, horticulture career preparedness, and sustainable cut flower performance and production.
